There’s only one DOM MARTIN. Dom was there in the thick of it, when BMB was but a few weeks old. He spent the next five years helping to turn us into a place of which I am now very proud. And he did it through the lethal combination of raw creative energy, undiluted optimism and the sort of ideas which were always several years ahead of their time.

Dom was, I seem to remember, the first human being in the United Kingdom to own an iPhone. While I made a note of this fact in chalk on my piece of slate, Dom was busy “exploiting the as-yet untapped creative opportunities of the accelerometer”.

Meaning he produced the iPint app for Carling. Not only one of the very first apps in the world, but one which recently passed the 2 million downloads mark. And counting.

Dom gets where our industry is going. And he’s also a really nice person.

As far as I’m concerned, there are no other attributes required for success right now.

Hire him immediately. Before he does something that makes you feel REALLY behind the times.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dom for the last year and a half in my time as Creative Director at Beattie McGuinness Bungay.

Dom was a senior creative at BMB but his attitude to work was anything but old fashioned.

Dom’s strength lies in his voracious appetite to find new ways of getting the message out there. He understands the new media landscape incredibly well, even though he’s had to learn it rather than grow up with it.

This, coupled with easy going attitude and his desire to muck in when the chips are down, makes him an invaluable member of any department, as he was in mine at BMB.

I knew that when a brief needed cracking, Dom could be relied upon to do so in a professional way with often wonderfully creative results that didn’t feel like they were stuck in the 70’s.

Dom worked closely with me on a number of briefs. I found working with him generating ideas a pleasure. He is incredibly collaborative and isn’t afraid to spit out ideas left right and centre which is what’s needed, especially in pitch situations.

But he is also adept at taking a brief and coming back quickly when he’s working on his own.

Dom knows the agency scene inside out. He keeps the cogs nicely oiled in account management, traffic and planning, in fact contributing well in all those areas as well as creative.

I also found him to be very good in front of clients. Passionate about his ideas and able to get them across simply without coming over as some sort of arty prima donna. And he always kept an open mind and listened to feedback internally and externally.
